Teaching about Prayer |

Books about how to pray – what prayer involves, different ways of praying, lessons from the writer’s own prayer life
If prayer is simply a matter of talking to God, why do we often find it so difficult, or at the very least, hard to prioritise? While a surprisingly high percentage of people in the UK admit to praying at some time or other, the challenge for Christians is to move beyond prayer as crisis management or shopping list, and experience it as being in the very presence of our heavenly Father.
Calvin Miller encourages readers to engage with prayer practically, forming a new understanding of prayer as we focus on the art of loving God, and experience poetry and praise in ordinary life. Each chapter concludes with prayer exercises to start readers along the path of Celtic prayer.
"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me." Simon Barrington-Ward teaches us how to use the Jesus Prayer (above), and opens up the Bible passages that are crucial to understanding it.
Most of us, when we think of the apostle Paul, may not immediately think of ‘prayer’. Acclaimed speaker, minister and author Tom Smail uncovers Paul's example and teaching on prayer in this book of stimulating Bible-based teaching.
Michael Mitton shows how, with God’s help, we can relearn the art of listening in a noisy world and, in so doing, become a source of help and healing for others and for ourselves. The author’s insights are drawn from wide experience of listening ministry in the UK and are interwoven with biblical reflection and an intriguing fictional story that explores and highlights the book’s themes. Through it, we are encouraged to listen to our hearts, to our wider communities, to our world and, above all, to God in all of these things. |
